Supplier MAT Holdings Inc. Meets Rising Demands For Home Renovations

Midwest Air Technologies Inc. (MAT Holdings Inc.) started in 1984 as a retail air compressor manufacturer in Chicago. Dr. Steve Wang, founder and CEO, has since grown his company into a global manufacturing business with 40 factories on three continents.

As a family-owned company, MAT Holdings uses a set of core values to guide its business. “We try to create a culture of mutual respect, cooperation and support as you would expect within a family,” he says. This culture influences their relationships with customers and partners like The Home Depot.

The partnership between MAT Holdings and The Home Depot began in the late 1990’s selling fencing products. Currently, MAT Holdings supplies lawn and garden, fencing, pet containment, air compressors and planter products to The Home Depot.

MAT Holdings works closely with The Home Depot to develop new products that satisfy the ever-changing needs of consumers, especially in response to last year’s rise in home renovation projects. “The Home Depot has an incredible drive and desire to satisfy their DIY and Pro customers at every level,” says Steve.

During the pandemic, many people invested in their homes and property, which stimulated the DIY market. “All of our lawn and garden, fencing and pet containment business saw unprecedented demand,” says Steve. “There are challenges that come with this, such as capacity constraints, which led to major investments in factories.”  The capacity constraints prompted the company’s major investments abroad. Over the past year, they completed a new distribution center and expanded one of their global manufacturing campuses.

Another challenge they faced in the past year was in response to the global container shortage. The company worked closely with their factories, logistics team and The Home Depot to help maintain a steady and continuous supply.
