International Home + Housewares Show to Become The Inspired Home Show in 2020

ROSEMONT, IL (June 27, 2019)—The International Housewares Association (IHA) is changing the name of its world-class marketplace the International Home + Housewares Show to The Inspired Home Show, IHA’s Global Home + Housewares Market in 2020. The change is part of the Association’s expansion of The Inspired Home platform, which was created to align with consumer trends shifting from functional home design to aspirational lifestyle development.

IHA’s board of directors and staff worked on this change for over a year to develop a name and brand that would set the right tone for the industry, positioning the Show for the future, according John “JC” Collins, president/CMO of Neatfreak and 2018-19 IHA chairman.

“In the end, we leveraged our existing consumer brand, The Inspired Home, extending it to the trade as we found a clear convergence between product suppliers, retailers and consumers through lifestyle branding,” he said. “Consumers drive retail purchases, and their lifestyles drive the things they buy. Design and function are no longer the sole reasons people purchase housewares products. The Inspired Home Show is taking things a step further to help retailers understand how design and function fit into their customers’ lifestyles and to find ways to inspire them to purchase products that complement those lifestyles.”

“As the premier home and housewares event in the world, our members, exhibitors and retail attendees expect a Show that reflects current trends and attitudes,” said Derek Miller, president of IHA. “The Inspired Home Show will maintain all relevant aspects of the International Home + Housewares Show while introducing new elements that help product suppliers and retailers meet the needs of the changing consumer marketplace.”

The Inspired Home Show, IHA’s Global Home + Housewares Market will have an updated look and feel that is closely aligned to the current The Inspired Home consumer platform, incorporating lifestyle imagery and classic colors. The Show will remain a trade-only event at McCormick Place in Chicago and will maintain its “five expos in one” format with dine + decor located in the South Hall; clean + contain, Discover Design and International Sourcing located in the North Hall; and wired + well located in Lakeside Center.

Housewares is an extremely attractive category for many channels, and for the hardware channel housewares and homegoods represent a profitable extension of their business to customers who are already coming to their stores, Miller said. Hardware is the 5th highest direct-to-consumer channel for sales with 7.2% of the housewares market, according to IHA’s 2018 State of the Industry Report. Categories of particular interest to hardware retailers include cleaning products and stick goods; kitchen and household electrics; outdoor and hardware; space organizers and storage. More than 2,200 companies, including long-standing suppliers and innovative start-ups, will be at the 2020 Show to offer new solutions and new selling opportunities to hardware buyers.

The Inspired Home Show 2020, IHA’s Global Home + Housewares Market, will be held March 14-17 at McCormick Place, Chicago USA. 2020 attendee registration and additional Show information are available at both TheInspiredHomeShow.com and Housewares.org.
